Ruth’s career began in building services engineering and she specialises in the indoor environment.
Ruth Williams leads InsideOut, a New Zealand based building performance consultancy focusing on Buildings That Work. Her career began in building services engineering in the early 1990s, developing over 30 years through whole building monitoring and research, international building services consultancy, and creating, developing and leading building performance, ESD and simulation teams. Often her role didn’t exist until she got there.
Ruth uses passive engineering and building physics expertise together with simulation and monitoring to advise on the design for new buildings and the improvement of existing building stock. She specialises in marrying energy efficient robust design with beneficial indoor environments, using the building envelope to influence heat and air flows, thermal comfort and indoor air quality before systems and technologies are brought in to meet specific needs.
